The 11 Most Iconic Celebrity Outfits Of All Time Signal Some Serious Badassery

Celebs usually grace us with all sorts of outfits, from the incredibly chic to downright zany; but only few ensembles make it to that timeless, memorable status. When thinking back to the most iconic celebrity outfits of all time, normal denim looks or simple red carpet dresses don't really come to mind. Cardigans and column gowns are great and all, but not something you'd generally put on the sartorial hall of fame.

Instead, looks like Julia Roberts' Pretty Woman graduation gowns might be an example, considering her two-piece dress and thigh-high boots are still talked about and copied 16 years after they were on the big screen. Or Madonna's cone bra, which basically inspired a generation of women to own their bodies and their ***ualities, rather than hide them. Oftentimes with iconic looks come powerful feelings and subtle mesغير مجاز مي باشدes, which is what helps them become stamped into our memories.

So when we reflect on the last 100 years or so, which looks jump out and demand to be remembered? While there are many contenders — from Lady Gaga's meat dress to Julia Roberts' barefoot Cannes outfit — here is my take on just 11 of them. Have a peek and see if you agree. Below are 11 of the most iconic celeb outfits of all time.

1. Rosalind Russell's Business Suit

In her role for His Girl Friday circa 1940, Russell depicted an empowered, career-oriented journalist who slung stories just as well as the dudes in her male-dominated office. And her sassy business suits — which were very much feminine but very much professional — helped prove her stance.

2. Josephine Baker's Banana S******t

Josephine Baker was a dancer and singer who found incredible success in 1920s France. According to Biography.com, not only was she "Europe's most popular and highest-paid performer" and the first Black woman to star in a major motion picture, but she found her success by embracing her talents and not being afraid of her body.

Biography reported that Baker got her big break in 1929's La Folie du Jour, where she "danced wearing little more than a s******t made of 16 bananas." It brought the roof down in France and launched her spectacular career.

3. Gladys Bentley's Tuxes

Gladys Bentley was a 1920s jazz singer in Harlem who marched onto stage not with a flapper dress and saucy feather boa on, but a tuxedo. According to the Queer Cultural Center, Bentley was a lesbian and didn't feel the need to blend in or hide it.

QCC reported, "For Gladys, her lesbianism made her need to strike out on her own all the more urgent. As she would recall many years later in an EbonyMagazine article, "It seems I was born different. At least, I always thought so... Soon I began to feel more comfortable in boys clothes than in dresses." And so she would own the stage in a tux, and became all the more well known for it.

4. Marilyn Monroe's White Dress

Marilyn Monroe — White Dress — Iconic Photograph, .00+, etsy.com

The iconic white dress was a غير مجاز مي باشدtume for Monroe's part in 1955's The Seven Year Itch, where she played the tempting neighbor of a married family-man who had found himself alone in his apartment for the summer after his wife and kids went away for vacation.

But according to The Guardian, the scene was not as spontaneous as it looked. The Guardian explained, "Taking around three hours to film, the scene took 14 takes to get right, while 100 male photographers and between 2,000 and 5,000 spectators (who all loudly reacted whenever her s******t blew up) looked on." This just makes one appreciate that 10-second scene a little more, doesn't it?

5. Twiggy's Short S******ts

Just as Zelda Fitzgerald and the flappers were the poster girls of the '20s, Twiggy was the representative of the '60s and swinging London. With her boy-cropped hair, Bambi-like eyes, short mini dresses, and stocking-ed legs, Twiggy represented the radical style of a changing era.

Conservative 1950s aesthetics were being remolded into teeny tiny hem lines and fast fashion options, letting the generation of that time to express its rebellion through clothes.

6. Bianca Jagger's Wedding Suit

Bianca Jagger Studio 54 Print Poster, .59, wallpart.com

With Yves Saint Laurent's shocking and empowering female tuxedo fresh on the market, Bianca Jagger chose the feminist tuxedo piece in lieu of a traditional wedding dress back in 1971. The outcome? A long column s******t topped off with a tuxedo smoking jacket — with nothing underneath.

7. Grace Jones' Androgynous Style

As one of the '80s most famous supermodels and singers, Grace Jones was not only known for her talent, but also for her striking androgynous style. AsThe New York Times described it, "Her predatory, androgynous style subverted notions of race and gender." While her looks were many, they usually centered around a similar aesthetic whereby she rocked "flattop hairand Egyptian-cyborg outfits (when she wasn’t nude.)"

Why was this important? Because Jones helped bring unconventional gender identities into the mainstream. As her past partner, French photographer Jean-Paul Goude, told People, “Men think she’s ***y. Women think she’s a little masculine,” and “gays think she’s a drag queen.”

8. Madonna's Cone Bra

Madonna Magazine Live & Direct, .95, ebay.com

Madonna's infamous Jean Paul Gaultier corset for her Blonde Ambition Tour in 1990 is a look that has gone down in history. Reminiscent of the bullet bras from the 1950s, Madonna's raunchy and hyper-***ualized look was a feminist mesغير مجاز مي باشدe. As The BBC reported, "30 years later, Madonna famously re-appropriated the bra — once rejected by feminists as a symbol of repression — to express her own statement on female ***uality and empowerment." Lady M was loud and proud over the shape of her body, and encouraged us to be, too.

9. Beth Ditto's Corset Tee

Piggybacking off of that Madonna point, let's fast-forward to 2015 and observe indie music star Beth Ditto's corset version. Changing the focus from feminism to body positivity, Ditto joined in a collaboration with Jean Paul Gaultier to change his iconic Blonde Ambition cone bra into a T-shirt everyone might enjoy.

According to Mic, Gaultier supports the plus size revolution, saying on Ditto's website, "Big girls are beautiful, and Beth is super beautiful! Long live the beauty with shapes, boobs, and bottoms." With so many designers hesitant and unwilling to include more diversity in their shows and collections, this felt like a sign of progress.

10. Caitlyn Jenner's First Public Appearance

Kevin Winter/Getty Images Entertainment/Getty ImagesCaitlyn Jenner's first public appearance after coming out as transgender was at the Arthur Ashe Courage Awards in 2015, for which she was nominated. Looking beautiful in a white evening dress, Jenner's look wasn't only memorable because of the aesthetic appeal, but also because of the mesغير مجاز مي باشدe it conveyed.

In her speech, Jenner gave a new voice to the transgender community, saying, "This transition has been harder on me than anything I could imagine. And that’s the case for so many others besides me. For that reason alone, trans people deserve something vital. They deserve your respect. And from that respect comes a more compassionate community, a more empathetic society and a better world for all of us," as reported by The Washington Post.

While wearing a white dress, Jenner opened up a platform to discuss transgender issues and rights, and inspire change.

11. Viola Davis' Dress At The 2015 Emmys

Kevork Djansezian/Getty Images Entertainment/Getty ImagesThis is the iconic white graduation dresses uk Davis made history in by being the first woman of color to win an Emmy for Outstanding Actress in a Drama Series for her role in How To Get Away With Murder. In her acceptance speech, she brought forth the issue of how there are no real roles created for WOC, which is why it took up to 2015 for one to win.

Seeing it as a chance to speak out on the issue of representation and opportunity, Davis said, "And let me tell you something, the only thing that changes women of color from anyone else is opportunity. You cannot win an Emmy for roles that are simply not there," as reported by E! News. Powerful words for a powerful win.

While I might not have mentioned Audrey Hepburn's LBD or Katharine Hepburn's suits, you have to admit that all these looks are pretty iconic. Here's to keeping an eye out for the new ones to come.

After a week of so many tragic news it’s always great to see heartwarming stories like these, especially when they have an added Disney touch.

Lucky little girl Danielle Koning from Grand Rapids, Michigan had an important court date to show up for last week. It would be the final court hearing for her foster parents, Sarah and Jim Koning, to adopt Danielle and another little girl. Courtrooms are never a fun place, especially for a 5-year-old, so to make the day extra special for Danielle, her foster care workers came up with the idea to princess prom dress everybody as characters from Disney Princess movies.

Imagine Danielle’s surprise when she walked into the courtroom to see it full of Disney Princesses — even the judge got involved!

Executive director for Samaritas Foster Care Program, Laura Mitchell, told ABC News: “It’s obviously a very meaningful day. The hearing is definitely a celebration that the kids now have forever families. And it shows the love and compassion that our case workers have.”

Beyonce and Jay Z are now ready to put a brand new start in their marriage and will now be wearing new matching wedding rings as a symbol of their renewed love.

Sources close to the couple said that the decision to wear new wedding rings is the next stage after Bey explodes and narrates about the music mogul's alleged cheating scandal in her album Lemonade released last May.

"They are starting over. They've even had new wedding rings designed as a way to show off their fresh start," a source said.

The couple were seen this week attending the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) Awards in New York City on Monday. With them is their cute daughter, Blue Ivy, who also celebrates with Bey as she received the Fashion Icon Award for the event.

Sources who took a picture of the rapper during the event noticed that the new wedding ring that he is wearing-- a black and gold engraved ring that is different from his plain gold wedding band.

But what about Bey's new ring?

"Jay is wearing his, but Beyonce is still finalising her design. She wants something more symbolic and special," the source added.

It can be remembered that since 2014, the power couple's marriage is rocked by marriage scandals particularly Jay Z's alleged affairs with Rachel Roy and Rita Ora. Jay's cheating is said to be alluded in Bey's song in lyrics like "Becky with the good hair."

Meanwhile, Jay Z and Beyonce's presence at the 2016 CFDA Awards on Monday gets more attention as Rachel Roy, is also present during the event. The designer, at that time, is said to have kept a low profile and is one of the few celebrities who did not have a red carpet appearance.

She is said to be the cause of Jay Z and Solange's elevator fiasco in 2014.

The Best Looks For Women From LCM SS17

The very essence of 'fashion' is constant change. But this year, more than ever before, the fashion week calendar is (almost) being turned on its head, as brands boldly reject the traditional schedule and show system and herald in a new era for the industry.

photos:mermaid prom dresses uk

Brand du jour Vetements, for example, will atypically show menswear and womenswear in January and June from next year, while Tom Ford revealed in February that he will showcase his AW16 men’s and womenswear designs in September, nearer to when the collections actually become available in store.

In a similar vein, over the past couple of seasons, leading fashion houses have begun merging menswear and womenswear with mixed gender shows. In September, Burberry and Bottega Veneta will combine their men’s and women’s collections in one catwalk showcase and next year both Gucci and Tommy Hilfiger will follow their lead with co-ed shows too.

So what does this mean for London Collections Men, the menswear platform that launched in the capital in June 2012, elevating British menswear and finally putting men's fashion under the same spotlight as women's? Is it still relevant, or, after just nine seasons, is LCM losing its mojo?

For SS17, LCM put on a notably new face as many of Britain's best menswear designers and brands expanded on or introduced womenswear to their collections. Calvin Klein, Brioni, Cavalli, Ermanno Scervino and a number of other Italian brands have all chosen to withdraw from the Milan menswear schedule later this month and though there were some obvious absences from the LCM calendar this season (*ehem* Burberry), we think the London's menswear showcase is as exciting and dynamic as ever – even more so for being bolstered by the inclusion of womenswear.

With that said, we've rounded up some of our favourite looks for women from LCM SS17. Here come the girls...

They love to stroll around New York's Manhattan come rain or shine.

But Hilaria and Alec Baldwin are rarely seen out without one of their two beautiful children, Carmen who will turn three in August and son Rafael, who is one on Friday, or their little dogs.

However, they appeared to be on a solo trip on Monday, marking something of an occasion for the couple, who tied the knot in June 2012.

The couple looked casual and comfortable in one another's company.

He has five projects in various stages of completion due this year, including Back In The Day, which bowed on May 20.

Rules Don't Apply is due out November 11 while Paris Can Wait, Blind and Drunk Parents have yet to set release dates.

He already has two movies set up for next year - Downsizing and Boss Baby, for which he is lending his voice.

And he will also voice a character in Arctic Justice: Thunder Squad in 2018.

Is This The Most Extravagant Wedding Of All Time?

Remember a few months back when 20-year-old Khadija Uzhakhova wore an insane £18,000 wedding backless prom dresses uk to her reported billion wedding?

We were all hoping the extravagant event would just be a one-off so we wouldn’t all feel completely rubbish about our own modest nuptials.

However, it seems Billionaire’s son, 23-year-old Sargis Karapetyan and his bride 25-year-old bride, Salome Kintsurashvili, didn’t get our memo.

Yes, another million pound fairtytale wedding has taken place and it is possibly the most extravagant wedding EVER.

Interestingly, the event took place in Moscow at the same famous Safisa venue that the previous billion wedding also took place. Coincidence? We think not.

The couple were definitely determined to make their wedding bigger and better than any wedding ever before.

Salome wore not one, not two but three lust-worthy couture gowns. As if her main ,000 glittery Elie Saab gown wasn’t dazzling enough, it was also topped off with 0,000 of jewellery - casual.

Then came the ginormous nine-tiered wedding cake that basically looked more like a sculpture that should be in the V&A.

Oh, and Maroon 5 were their wedding band. Like seriously? Is this real life?

The Future of the Fashion Show: Adrian Joffe

When Comme des Garçons held its once-every-three-years Super-Market-Market sale in a westside warehouse space last month, shoppers lined up by the hundreds (celebs included), street style photographers descended, there was even a DJ. With Comme des Garçons and labels stocked at the CDG-owned Dover Street Market—J.W.Anderson, Gosha Rubchinskiy, Craig Green—at 70 to 80 percent off, it was a can’t-miss event.

photos:backless evening dresses

The general consensus is that it’s grim out there for retailers. Where so much else is going wrong, Comme des Garçons designer Rei Kawakubo and her husband, Adrian Joffe, the president of both CDG and DSM, are doing something right. Which is why I wanted to talk to Joffe about the fashion subject du jour: the future of runway shows. Comme des Garçons’s are famously exclusive and famously well-regarded. How does Joffe view the see-now-buy-now trend? Where does he stand on consumer-facing shows? Will we ever see a CDG show in virtual reality? Joffe answered my questions via email. Read on for his outspoken replies.

2016 is shaping up to be a year of fashion disruption. You’ve got major designer departures, some brands rethinking delivery schedules, others combining men’s and women’s collections. I’m interested in your perspective on the changes as the president of Dover Street Market and CDG.

Fashion, like life, is about constant change. Recently for sure there have been more changes than usual, but I am not sure we can say fashion is in crisis or that it matters. In a way we should welcome big changes and even revolutions because the status quo is never that interesting or positive. Disruption can perhaps pave the way for more creative thinking and less boring clothes.

As for Comme des Garçons and Dover Street Market, we just get on with what we do and don’t really take into account or change according to trends. We are our own microغير مجاز مي باشدm.

Knowing shoppers as well as you do after years of running DSM stores around the world, how excited are you about the idea of see-now-buy-now collections? Do you think direct-from-the-runway collections can help the flagging retail scene?

I’m not at all excited. It’s an unimaginative marketing idea that will, if anything, kill off retail even quicker. It smacks a bit of totalitarianism. I feel it takes away the freedom of the buyer and herds the consumer even more into what is supposed to be hot and enforces the idea that instantaneousness is the new paradise. Individuality and choice are reduced. Where is the suspense, the patience, the surprise, the happy accidents? Where is the art, where is the risk, and where is the space for creation to flourish in the see-now-buy-now mind-set?

Labels big (Gucci) and small (Vetements), both of which DSM stocks, have announced plans to combine their women’s and men’s collections. As a retailer, what do you see as the pros and cons, both big picture and on the ground, in terms of store buyers’ schedules? Also, has Team CDG given any thought to combining women’s and men’s collections?

Of course this will never happen for CDG. Men’s and ladies’ CDG have completely different starting points, although as with anything in CDG, they share the same values. But for Gucci and Vetements and anyone else to do [it] is, of course, no problem for us, and we wish them luck. Scheduling, of course, is always a bit of a nightmare but no big deal. We’ll get to see what we want to see.

In my interviews with others on the future of fashion shows, the subject tends to turn to retail. I’ve heard a lot of complaints about the a-seasonality of deliveries—i.e., Spring arrives in January, Fall collections in July. Why does this situation persist?

I am not sure, really, but I think it is something to do with large fabric manufacturers and the spiral of earlier and earlier bargain sales by depressed American department stores. It is very silly, though, to get Spring/Summer clothing just as winter is beginning to dig in its heels.

Last month, Business of Fashion had an editorial about broken department stores. What strategies have you used at DSM to avoid this fate?

We just do what we do, and don’t take notice or be affected by what is happening out there. We only aim to make an exciting and stimulating retail experience through beautiful chaos. I think also creating a community of relationships is what is important, between suppliers and us and between us and consumers. It is hard to have synergetic relationships online or with corporate machines.

Getting back to fashion shows, of all the changes being discussed and put into action this year, which do you think has a chance of sticking?

I have no idea. It’ll be interesting to see.

CDG has always staged very intimate shows. With all of the interest in the collection, they could easily be twice or three times bigger. Can you weigh in on why this formula works well for you?

Rei likes the audience to see the clothes close up.

I’m guessing you have very little interest in staging public-facing shows.

Maybe one day!! Who knows . . .

What do you think of the strategy for other brands?

Everyone should be free to do what they want. But remember, democracy can lead to the lowest common denominator syndrome.

CDG has, to my knowledge, never staged a pre-season show or presentation.

We are not organized to do so. We have 15 to 16 brands, each with their own concept, and deliveries throughout the season. We don’t need pre-collections. Our clients don’t demand it of us.

What’s your opinion on the pre-seasons?
